Fukuro Elementary school in the city of Minamata in Kumamoto prefecture, was the very first public school in the city, opened in 1872, and it has since been rebuilt in 2003. The city of Minamata is highly conscious of importance of a safe environment, and is focused on creating an “Industrial Cultural City of Environment, Health, and Welfare”.
Fukuro Elementary school is a true “Eco-School”, established utilizing environmentally safe building materials and furniture. Ai-Wall was chosen and applied as a formaldehyde countermeasure product.
Kumamoto prefecture has been promoting universal design ideas. Accordingly, Fukuro Elementary school has incorporated various ideas from students, their parents, teachers, and local residents, from the beginning of the design phase to completion.
